Dave has been successfully running professional race teams since 1985. In the first year they finished the top privateer team with top ten overalls in both Supercross and the outdoor nationals. Tuf Racing was consistently the top privateer team from 1985 until 1993. During that time they consistently finished in the top ten in the premier 250 Supercross class with 7th over all their best year. In the outdoors they have their best year in 1991 finishing 3rd overall. During this time the team fielded such riders as Alan King, Keith Bowen, Todd Dehoop, Ronnie Tichenor, Mark Barnett, and Ron Leichen.
During this time Tuf Racing's mail order and performance group had grown to such a level that participating in the extended SX/MX schedule became impossible to dedicate the time to. In 1996 when the Arenacross started to develop Dave saw this as an opportunity to get his racing fix during the off season winter months. Then won the championship the first year with Jimmy Gaddis, and then again in 1997 with Buddy Antunez During the next few years the championship would seem to be just out of reach as the team would finish 2nd 6 times out of the next 8 seasons. This included a controversial one point loss in 2006 with Brock Sellards. But in 2007 the jinx was broken as Danny Smith won the championship leading from the first weekend. In 2007 the team also received it's second team of the year award from the series.
Dave has been awarded a life time achievement award for his contribution to the Arenacross series. An interesting note is that no one has won an Arenacross title since 1996 that has not first ridden for the Tuf Racing team. This year with both Danny Smith and Brock Sellards returning should be a sign of what is to come in 2008.
